I think none of those sound like options I’d trust around wool thread, not unless the situation was more dire. As it is, it’s acceptable, and will look even in color once it’s framed. Those long stitches for the grass, in particular, would be vulnerable to damage from any kind of friction or chemical. And while I might consider trying dry cleaning if it were mine, Mom’s not going to trust it to a dry cleaner if she doesn’t *have* to.
So, thanks for offering some options, and I’ll keep them in my toolbox for other occasions (I’m sure it will come up eventually that I’ll want to clean old embroidery that’s not delicate wool and a family heirloom!).
